Thank-you for expressing an interest in our six-week samba drumming induction course. This course potentially leads to main band membership. Here is all of the information that you need…
When?
Thursday 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th January 5th, 12th, February 2026 (term time only)
6.30pm-7.30pm. Give yourself plenty of time to find us on your first session. Please arrive in good time so we are ready to start at 6.30pm.
Where?
The course is run from the United Reform Church, 82 Main Street, Cockermouth, CA13 9LU
There is limited parking and you MUST register your vehicle on a screen in the Church on arrival
What do I need to bring with me?
Just yourselves. Drums, sticks, beaters, belts, ear plugs and shin pads are all provided as part of the course at Drum Nation. Samba drumming is quite physical so a good level of general fitness is required, although adjustments can be made. Wear loose fitting clothes. Please leave all valuables, jumpers, bags etc in your car. Just bring yourself.
How do I pay?
The course fee is £70 for six sessions. This included drums and equipment, PPE and expert tuition.
Please electronically transfer £70 prior to the first session. Email us for bank details
Ref: DN West
Please state your name if the money is coming from an account with a different name.
Refunds policy.
Drum Nation will refund any session that is cancelled. Drum Nation does not offer refunds for sessions that you are unable to attend. Please make sure you are available to attend all sessions before committing to the course as refunds will not be issued if you do not attend.
We understand that you may have to miss the odd session, which is completely understandable. You can still join the course.
What happens after the course?
If you love drumming and decide that you would like to be considered for the main band, you will be invited for an informal chat with our musical team. If the decision is reached that you are up to standard in terms of aptitude and attitude then you will be invited to join the main performance band and allocated a drum. If, for whatever reason, you feel that drumming is not right for you, we will thank you for your time and part company on the best of terms.
The main band practices every Thursday, term time only, and learns to drum and perform to a high standard. The main band perform at gigs such as Kendal Torchlight, Preston Caribbean Carnival, Eskfest, Cockermouth Live, Kendal Calling, The Winter Drovers, Pride events and loads of other amazing festivals, functions and private gigs. As a member of the main band, you will get these opportunities once you are at the right standard.
So now we’ve bombarded you with information, we’ll leave you to decide if you would like to start the course. If you would like to join us (and we hope you do) just pay your £70 course fee prior to the start of the first session and just turn up on 8th January 2026.
We do hope you will join us. We are such a great community of lovely people and it would be wonderful to have you with us.
